Co-Workers Not Cleaning Up After Themselves?

Dirty Kitchen, Lots of Dishes in SinkDo you find that staff members leave their garbage around the kitchen area? Do you get annoyed that you are always the one that has to clean up after them? Do you start wondering if they treat their own house the same way?

You’re not alone. One of my readers asked me for some tips on handling annoying co-workers that don’t throw out their tea bags, leave used paper towels around the sink area or just leave their dirty dishes in the dish rack.

Here are 3 suggestions that I remember hearing about from other sources that have been proven to be effective:

  1. You can send out an e-mail to everyone asking them to clean up after themselves and not leave garbage in the dish tray. Make sure that you don't point fingers at anyone, just to lighten the blow.
  1. Put up a sign that says something like, "Please don't put garbage in the dish tray", "Your mother doesn't work here, clean up after yourself" or "Press this button and if no one comes to help, please clean up after yourself".
  1. You can remove the dish rack totally and people would be responsible for cleaning their dishes, throwing out their garbage, etc. right away.
Do you know of any other ways to get your staff members to clean up after themselves? Share your thoughts by leaving a comment.

Referring to co-workers not cleaning up after themselves, our women would leave a paper "trail" in the restroom of paper towels. The main reason was because the germophobes would use a paper towel to open the door to exit, then drop it on the floor. I finally procured an extra wastebasket and put it right inside the door, and it worked!

That's an excellent idea. I should suggest that at my workplace as well.

Thanks,

Richard
