Resizing Pictures in Microsoft Word

Microsoft Word Letter W Running with Arms and LegsYour boss comes up to you and asks you to take a look at an e-mail that he/she just sent you. You open the e-mail and open the Microsoft Word attachment. You notice that there is a picture within the file and your boss asks you to resize it. What do you do next?

Some people have asked me this recently and I thought that I'd share my knowledge of this task with all of you. This is actually quite a very simple thing to do.

Here are the steps to do this:

  1. Click anywhere on the picture that you want to resize.
  1. You will notice that the picture now has 8 different sections you can use to resize it with, shown with the red circles along the edges.

  1. Left click and hold any one of these little boxes and you will notice that your picture is being resized.
  1. Once you are done resizing, let go of the mouse button and voila! You have your new picture.

These actions don't change the picture size. You see a little picture, which is only shown in reduced size (e.g. 7%), but the document size is the same. You can not e-mail a document with 30 such pictures because size is over 10 MB.

Hi,

Thanks for the comment. Sorry, I guess I wasn't clear enough. What I meant was to resize the picture so that it looks larger or smaller within Word. I didn't mean that the picture size and he file size itself would change.

But thanks for pointing this out.

Hi Manish,

Do you mean all 30 pictures are in Word? If so, you would have to do each one manually.

If anyone knows of a faster way, please let us know.

Thanks,

Richard

Yeah Richard, I am having all the 30 pictures in a word document, I am looking for any faster way than manually resizing all the pictures.

Thanks
Manish

Hi Manish,

Unfortunately, I don't have any other answer to this except to resize each one individually.

If anyone knows a faster way, please leave a comment on here.

Thanks,

Richard

Yeah, this is pretty obvious. How can you change the actual file size, though? That's the question we all want answered.

Hi,

Unfortunately, you can't change the size of the file, but you can with Paint or Photoshop.

Thanks,

Richard

Hi,
to my knowledge, there is an easy way to resize all 30 pics in word doc. So, please follow:

Right-click in ONE of your pictures (in word doc) / choose FORMAT PICTURE / COMPRESS / Seelect ALL PICTURES IN DOC / Change RESOLUTION (3 options) & hit OK.

That's all folks.

...and I forget to assure you that, the picture will lose the quality, but the size of document is a lot smaller.

Cheers
