Forgot Your Password? Again?

Lots of locks hanging from chainsForgetting your Windows password happens to everyone from time to time. Yes, even I forget it at times.  People are always bombarded with computers asking them to change their passwords every so often. Then you have to try to remember all of these passwords!  When does it ever end?

Then you have the dreaded website passwords.  These are endless, since many people have usernames and passwords for so many different sites, it really is impossible to keep track of all of this information.

Well, if you've forgotten your password, here are some things you can try to alleviate your pain.

  1. Try taking off the CAPS lock. You'd be surprised of how many times people have asked me, "Why can't I log into my system?" Then I ask them this question and voila - they're in!
  1. Try different variations of your password. You will get locked out after too many tries, so wait about 30 minutes and this will be lifted. Then you can try again.
  1. If you are working from home, ask someone to log in that has Administrator privileges or log in as "Administrator" without a password. You can now reset your own password.
  1. If you are at the office and all else fails, call your IT department and they can reset your account for you.
If you need to remember lots of different passwords, try using RoboForm. Here are some features directly from the site:
  • Manage Your Passwords and Log In automatically.
  • Fill long registration and checkout forms with one click.
  • Encrypt your passwords to achieve complete security.
  • Generate random passwords to maximize password strength.
  • Fight Phishing by entering passwords only on matching web sites.
  • Defeat Keyloggers by not using the keyboard to type passwords.
  • Back up your passwords and copy them between computers.
  • Synchronize passwords between computers using GoodSync.

Thanks for this guys!

Unfortunately, at my workplace, I have to contact IT for this, so they can take a bit of time. But this is great for people that work on stand-alone systems!

Thanks,

Richard
