Walk Into A Better Life!

WalkingDo you want to become healthier? Do you feel that you can do a little extra each day to exercise? Do you feel that you deserve to have more energy during your work day?

Even if you are the type of person that exercises regularly, you could still benefit from this article.

I have been working in an office setting for over a decade now. As I got up in the morning, I got ready for work, feeling tired. Then I would sit in my chair for 8 hours a day and that made me feel really sluggish and fatigued. Then, at the end of the work day, I would head home and eat dinner. Then I would plop on the couch and watch TV and do other low-intensive activities.

This was my typical day. Things have changed quite a bit since then. Don't get me wrong, I do enjoy doing some activities that require you not to move around much, especially when I'm tired.

Here are some of the things that you can do to make your day a little better and with time, you will feel that you have accomplished more with more energy:

  • Take the stairs. I work in an office setting where there are about 6 floors that I have to go in between. When I don't have a heavy load of files to carry, I try to take the stairs. It only takes a few extra seconds and you don't have to wait for the elevator.
  • Take walks during break and lunch. Since I get 45 minutes for lunch and my two 15 minute breaks, I try to squeeze in a little walking. Ok, at times, it can get cold, since I'm located in Canada, but most of the time, I take a brisk walk around my workplace.
  • Organize a walking club. I see some of my co-workers from other departments walking together. Others will motivate you to go out and walk with them. See if you can organize a small group of people to join you and make sure to spread the word.
  • Take walks before and/or after work, even on weekends. Taking a short walk after work feels great, since I get to enjoy the scenery in my area and fresh air makes you feel better as well. Unfortunately, I can't take walks in the morning, since I start a little earlier than the regular 9 to 5'ers.

Hopefully this will help you get out there and start moving. You'd be surprised of how quickly you start feeling better and start having more energy to do things in all part of your life.
