Boost Productivity: Take A Break From Your Work!

Person Standing Inside Tires At OfficeDo you find yourself working away throughout the day and checking personal e-mails, logging on to your bank account to make sure everything's in order or checking your Facebook account to see if anything new happened? Do you feel that you are doing something wrong during work time?

A New Zealand-based network security consulting firm Voco ran a study where busy workers would do this type of activity during work hours. They concluded that 25% of that time is used for this type of activity. Also, 80% of e-mails sent from work were at the personal level. This means lost productivity for your company.

Believe me, everyone's done this. Of course, you really should do this during your breaks and lunch time, since that's what they're there for. But there are times when you just need to take a break and get away from it all. Think of it as a mini-vacation from your work.

Think of it this way. You are working away and you feel that you are getting things done quite quickly. You start to feel tired, but want to keep going. If you take a small break either at or away from your desk, just for a few minutes, your productivity can boost much faster, rather than continuing to work.

Refocusing your mind to something different helps you get out of "the zone" type of mentality and wakes up your brain. When you have been working on something for hours, you get into this trance and your brain goes into hibernation.

So, the next time you feel like a few minutes away from your desk, remember that you will be more productive if you do, rather than continuing with what you are doing.
