Hand Stretching Exercises

Hand ExercisesDo you find that you work your fingers to the bone at your office? Ok, well maybe not that much, but I am sure that you are very productive and really don’t know when to stop. Your body is telling you to take a break, but you don't listen to it. You feel pain, but you keep going.

This is obviously not a good thing. But it happens to the best of us all the time. You have to listen to your body and stop what you are doing if you feel even the slighted amount of pain. You really should be taking a break every 30 minutes, but of course, with our busy lives, this can be difficult.

If you do encounter a small amount of time that you can take your break on, try doing some hand stretching exercises. Here's a great article I found on hand stretching exercises by Stretch Now. It gives you instructions in detail as well as diagrams of how to do them. This will definitely relieve you of your pain in a short period of time.

Another thing you can do is switch the mouse from your right to left side of your keyboard.  At first, it will feel a little odd, but over time, you get used to it and realize that this will balance out the tension in your wrists and thus the pain will decrease.

If you have extended health care benefits from your employer or private insurance, try visiting your local physiotherapy or massage therapy clinic to get this checked out and attend sessions on a regular basis, as the practitioner advises. I have been going to a physiotherapist for quite a number of years now and have done wonders for my wrists.

6 Easy Steps to a Better Work-Life Balance

Man, Woman on Scale with Money BagDo you find that you are working way too much? Do you feel that you want to spend more time with your family, friends or by yourself?

Many people are stuck in this situation where they can’t seem to find a good work-life balance. This can be difficult for many, but unfortunately, there is no simple answer. You have to understand that each person has to find balance in their life in their own way. There is really no right or wrong answer.

Here are 6 key strategies to reflect on when you are trying to figure out your own work-life balance:

  • Getting regular exercise of 20 minutes a day, 3 times a week is crucial. Try to squeeze it in where you can. Even if it’s 5 minutes here and there, it does add up.
  • “I don’t mix business with pleasure!” Adopt this strategy! It’s really important to keep your home and work life separate.
  • Schedule some “me” time. Go out with friends, take a hot bath, listen to some music, join a club or take a class.
  • Imagine that the end of the world is near. Picture what you would do in the last moments of your time. Try to do these things in your life starting today.
  • Create a budget! Finances can weigh people down and create problems in relationships. Many divorces are based on this one factor. Sit down with your partner and do it together.
Follow these 6 simple steps and you will figure out what work-life balance is right for you.

5 Steps to Better Ergonomic Health

Do you feel sore during the work day? Do you feel like you have to get up and stretch every so often? Do you need a break once in a while?

If you answered yes of any or all of these questions, your ergonomical setup might either be incorrect or you are not moving about enough during your day.

Here are some easy tips to follow to get your body moving and feeling move awake and energized during the day:

  • If you can't leave your desk for long periods of time, move within your chair at least every 20 minutes. This will help the muscles stretch and the blood flow.
  • If you do have the change to move out of your chair at times, try to do it for 5 minutes every 30 minutes. I understand that this can be a difficult task at times, but you will feel more productive in the long run.
  • The top of your monitor should be positioned at eye level. Make sure to have your monitor at least 2 feet away from you.
  • Your feet should be planted flat on the ground, so adjust your chair if needed.
  • Your arms should be close to your sides and flat on the table or arm rests.
Follow these simple steps and you will be on your way to becoming a healthier and more productive person, at work and outside of work.
